Join The Family Forest

The Family Forest is a dedicated online space where people who care for family forest land can connect with others who share the same goals and aspirations. This community offers landowners, conservation professionals, and their champions the opportunity to build relationships by using various content formats: question forums, polls, threaded conversations, live events, and sub-groups geared toward their specific interests. For leaders, educators, and peer influencers in the conservation realm, it will offer a centralized location to post announcements, information, share resources, and host virtual events as well.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out at communitymanagers@forestfoundation.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most Frequently Ask Questions for Enrolled Landowners

Your first payment will be issued from the Family Forest Impact Foundation, LLC within 60 days after your Landowner Participation Agreement is signed or the date all Payment-Related Materials have been received. Subsequent payments will be issued around the same time of the year.

In your Offer Package, you can find your payment schedule—including amounts and timing—outlined in the Payment Offer and Schedule section. You’ll also find a detailed payment breakdown in Attachment D of your Landowner Agreement.

Payments sent to landowners are designated on a 1099-MISC form as income and may be subject to taxes as such. The Family Forest Impact Foundation, LLC (FFIF) will send you a 1099-MISC form in late January/early February each year you receive at least $600 in Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP) payments. If your address changes, please notify us at communitymanagers@forestfoundation.org so there is no delay in issuing you these documents.

If you have additional questions concerning your 1099-MISC, please consult a tax professional, as we are unable to give further guidance on filling out or filing this document.

If you have any questions about the program or plans for your forest, don’t hesitate to contact the Community & Sustained Engagement Team at communitymanagers@forestfoundation.org. The Community Manager supports landowners after enrollment. We are available to support you as you develop or update your forest management plan, connect you to events, and answer questions you might have about your agreement over the coming years.

As part of your enrollment, both you and the Family Forest Impact Foundation, LLC must sign and notarize a Notice of Agreement filed with your deed. All parties who signed the agreement must sign and have notarized the enclosed Notice of Agreement. Once completed, please mail the entire Notice of Agreement to:

If you don’t have a forest management plan, the Family Forest Carbon Program will provide technical or financial assistance to help you develop a forest management plan (or update your existing plan) within the first 2 years of your enrollment.

If you opted into financial assistance for a forest management plan written by a certified 3rd party forester, please send us a copy of your forest management plan within 2 years of enrollment. If you need help finding a forester, please let us know at communitymanagers@forestfoundation.org.

If you opted for FFCP to write your plan, a forester will contact you to schedule a site visit as soon as they have room in their schedule, which may take several months. For forest management plans written by a FFCP staff forester, FFCP will support you in updating your plan upon expiration.

It may be possible to enroll additional project acres in the future via an amendment or new landowner agreement. Reach out to communitymanagers@forestfoundation.org as soon as this becomes of interest and we will help advise you on options specific to your goals and woodlands.

You can cancel your landowner agreement at any time. Depending on the reason for breach of Landowner Agreement, there is a penalty fee in addition to all monies paid thus far to the landowner including interest. Penalties are specified in the Landowner Participation Agreement.

The obligations of the Landowner Participation Agreement “runs with the land” and is binding upon respective heirs’, personal representatives, successors, and permitted assigns, as applicable. Next of kin(s) or new property owner(s) should contact the Community Sustained Engagement Team at communitymanagers@forestfoundation.org.

If you plan to sell or transfer your property, please contact communitymanagers@forestfoundation.org as soon as possible. Your Landowner Participation Agreement “runs with the land.” By signing the Landowner Participation Agreement you have agreed to follow specific steps related to transfers before they occur (we highly recommend you familiarize yourself with or refer to Article 9). We are here to help you ensure compliance and a successful transition!

If you are selected, we will let you know you’ve been selected and connect you to the forester that will be installing the plots. This is on the ground monitoring done at no cost to you. You and the forester will find a time that works for you for the forester to install the plots for on-the-ground monitoring. 8-12 plots are installed per selected stand. You don’t have to be present for their installation, but if you prefer to be, we can include a staff forester, upon request. After they’ve been installed and measurements taken, the forester will compile the data collected and send it to us for processing.

All enrolled landowners will also receive a report of the full program’s carbon benefit once our measurements have been third-party verified. You can expect no more than three visits per year, and we will always contact you before visiting your property.
